In a shocking twist to Marvel lore, Marvel’s Ultimate Universe just gifted Iron Man a new, game-changing superpower, as Tony Stark just unlocked the Incredible ability to duplicate himself, so that he can be in multiple places at once. Ultimate Iron Man’s new ability is mind-blowing, and it once again proves why he is the central character of the flagship Ultimates series.

In Ultimates #13, written by Deniz Camp, with art by Juan Frigeri, Tony Stark and his superhero team, the Ultimates, work overtime to bring back heroism and prepare the world’s heroes to fight against the Maker upon his return. At the end of the issue, it is revealed that Tony Stark has been helping the world’s other heroes all at the same time by breaking himself down into isolated moments, and duplicating himself, in order to to divide and conquer.

Tony’s new ability gives the heroes the upper hand, and elevates Iron Man to Ultimate Marvel’s most invincible hero.

Using the Immortus Engine as an arc reactor, the same device the Maker used to disrupt the Ultimate Universe, Iron Man has found a way to be in multiple places at once, an unparalleled power when considering what that actually entails. Despite Tony stretching himself thin, Iron Man still manages to excel in fighting crime across the globe in Ultimates #13, rallying allies for the team, while crafting a game plan against the Maker in his lab. With these new abilities, this upgrade to Ultimate Tony Stark has already made him leagues more powerful than his mainstream continuity counterpart.

Now that Tony can duplicate himself using the power of time-travel and is already noting that he’d like to increase the number of clones, he alone has the ability to create an army of Iron Men to aid in their endeavors. There are numerous incredible ways Iron Man can use his newfound power, such as saving duplicates of himself to ensure he never dies in battle. On top of Tony’s duplication powers making him incredibly hard to kill, Ultimates #12 revealed that Tony Stark also uses the Immortus Engine to pause his body before he is met with a deadly attack, which is how he survived getting crushed by the Hulk. With this latest addition to Iron Man’s power, Tony Stark has become completely unkillable, and subsequently makes him one of the greatest heroes the Ultimate Universe has to offer.

The ability to duplicate oneself is not a groundbreaking power, per se, but in combination with the powers of the Immortus Engine, that is, the powers to control time and see brief flashes of the future, Tony Stark has turned himself into a god-tier hero. Tony has quickly risen to become the Marvel Ultimate Universe’s most powerful hero, and should he hone his skills, Tony Stark might even be able to take down Ultimate Hulk. Marvel’s Ultimate Universe has completely shaken up its status quo by gifting Iron Man with mindblowing powers that could reshape the future of the timeline.
