Tom Esselle made a triumphant return to the Rhythm Section last week, with his first full length EP for the Peckham label, ‘Evolutions & Revolutions’.
Esselle first emerged as part of the Wholemeal collective and later co-founded the YAM Records shop in Peckham, which became a hub for the local scene alongside Balamii Radio and fostered talents such as Chaos In The CBD, Romal Kultaan and Joe Armon-Jones & Maxwell Owin.
His organic grooves, warm synths and bold basslines have been a fixture on the South East London scene for over 15 years now, but this EP sees him delve into 8-bit melodies, jazz, Latin and dub influences, taking classic house and giving it a thoroughly modern twist. So, we thought we’d invite him to roll out an hour or so of his distinctive DJ skills for your listening pelasure.
“To celebrate my EP release on Rhythm Section International,” he told us, “I wanted to record the sort of mix you might hear me play every year at the RS NYE party. Equal parts fun, deep, percussive and pumping – hope you enjoy it!”
