If one thing is for sure, there is much of an anticlimax expected for the familiar menswear show slated for spring and summer by Louis Vuitton. No one can denounce the same as one of casual undertones. Creative genius Pharrell Williams planted a seed with architect Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai to come up with a scenography that was inspired by the classical version of snakes and ladders. The concept continues to draw a fine mass of pre-event excitement as the show goes live online on Tuesday, June 24th, 9 pm CEST.

A video received from Pharrell sees Bijoy Jain elucidating the thought process behind the design; he describes it as a cosmic diagram, like a mandala, with a little whimsy that everyone has to go up in this game. Praise is abounding for coming together with the vision of the iconic LV Damier to the graphic language of Snakes and Ladders. The comment goes: “The idea of bringing a snakes and ladders game on iconic LV damier patterns is actually sooo smart!”
The thought behind these designs is catching on. Jain discusses how it is crucial for the creator not to know the outcome when creating something truly brilliant. “If you look at your best work, it’s a work that you had no idea that that’s what you could do,” he says. This sentiment touched a chord with many. Another commenter deemed the words “so inspiring.” Another added a far more reflective comment, “Artists, ‘not knowing the outcome’ while being pleasantly surprised along the way… are always looking for some greater meaning behind their work.”
Then again, those abstract notions did not resonate with some. “Blah de blah blah le blah blah game,” said one, dripping with sarcasm. But hey, you can never please everyone, right? Other comments were simply toast for the show, “Can’t wait to watch this.”
Expectations went even further towards some fans of the Japanese actor that reportedly be walking the runway. Comments abound with excitement on seeing him in the show; “Can’t wait to see Yuta’s outfit,” reads one.
Which is indeed more actually about the merger of two great minds into one. There’s an equal share of fanaticism for architect Bijoy with one member stating ‘one of my favorite architects.’
In related news, Felix from Stray Kids stunned at a recent Louis Vuitton event and left everyone speechless.
Countdown chatterklats for the show have already given birth to some of the really interesting online conversations riding the waves of hype, curiosity, and skepticism. Whether for the fashion, for the philosophy, or just to know which insane direction Pharrell is taking next, this Louis Vuitton show promises to be one of the big ones for the season.
