Better ‘Delayed…’ than never

The Mutual Response label is finally dropping its long awaited second release, more than two years on from its inaugural 12″ back in 2023.
Talented techno artist and close friend of the label, Dockett Eddy, who also runs the esteemed Turnend Tapes label, has provided the goods – and very tasty goods they are too. Moving through fresh yet familiar combinations of drum patterns and melodies, his first EP displays the beginnings of a unique, honed style, calling on a varied palette of reference from the last 30 years of electronic music.
The rough-edged, propulsive ‘Delayed Response’, was our choice when the MR offered us a choice of one of the four to preview ahead of its release on June 1. To be frank, any of them would have been great.
Calum Montgomery of Mutual Response says: “Eddy told me that the main idea for the track was conceived on an airplane with some shitty bluetooth headphones that had a sort of delay between logic and his ears, hence the name.
“For me the track works really well on a few different levels. It evolves into a place that you really wouldn’t expect from those rough drums at the start of the tune – very nostalgic. And it doesn’t try to do much, those synths chime in and then you get a few moments where there’s just enough tension to drop the drums back in to really good effect.”
