Mix is an all-original material affair
Quantic has decribed the “fun process” of curating his new DJ Kicks collection for !K7 Records, which hits shelves today.
The album is no ordinary mix session, as every track has been written and recorded specially for this project, with the final track, ‘No Llores Por Mí’, his own production, released under his Sobredosis alias.
“This is the first time I’ve been invited to curate a selection of songs from some of today’s most exciting and genre pushing artists,” said Quantic aka Will Holland, “It was a really fun process and I loved digging back into my own personal music archives, sometimes things move so fast and it was nice to take a slow approach and really explore deeper.”
“It’s got a moody start and end, but a big portion is uplifting and joyous,” says Holland. Likening the voyage to boarding a boat, he says, “you’re going down a river and get off in a different place… It’s also a cool way to encapsulate, stylistically, what I’ve been up to as a DJ over the last few decades, while shining a light on people I admire. It’s not like writing an album; you’re at the mercy of what other people are creating… Fortunately, the homies’ submissions were of an extremely high calibre!”
Alongside the Sobredosis closer, the mix features unreleased tracks by long-time friends and collaborators including Alfa Mist, Frente Cumbiero, The Heliocentrics’ Malcolm Catto, The Maghreban, and more.
Artwork is by Holland’s sister Lucy and features a photo of the Worcestershire-born producer during his teenage years.
